The Police in Zamfara State have beefed up security around all correctional facilities in the state to forestall attacks by criminals.

A statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Mohammed Shehu said, the action followed the attack on Abolongo Correctional Centre in Oyo State, Southwest Nigeria.

He said it is also due to the prevailing security challenges in Zamfara State and the efforts of the Police command to ensure the safety and security of all correctional facilities in the state.

The statement said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ayuba Elkanah, accompanied by Police Tactical Commanders, visited the Gusau Central Correctional facility to assess the existing security arrangements, to avert any security threats at the centre.

The Commissioner of Police while going around the facility, assured the State’s Comptroller of Correctional Service, that the Police is fully committed to the security and safety of all correctional centres in the state.

The CP added that his office is always open to approving any security request, regarding correctional facilities.

The Comptroller of the Correctional Service thanked the Commissioner of Police for his proactiveness and enthusiasm to protect the correctional facilities against any form of attack by unscrupulous elements.

He pledged that his office will be committed to keeping in touch with the Police Command, in a bid to ensure the security of correctional centres in the state.
