The Zamfara State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, says, it has not violated any law for holding political occasion to receive defectors from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and inauguration of its Governorship campaign council.

The State’s Deputy Chairman of PDP, Mukhtar Mohammed said, this while reacting to allegations levelled against the Party by the State Government that their political thugs attacked environmental sanitation staff who were carrying out sanitation in the Government Reserved Area, in Gusau metropolis in which one person is feared dead while about 18 persons were injured on Saturday.

The PDP deputy chairman debunked the allegation that the party supporters attacked some environmental sanitation staff where it held its Political gathering.

He, however, claimed that, what he knows was that, two members of the PDP were attacked on Friday evening by some miscreants leaving them with different degrees of injuries and their campaign van windscreen was smashed by the same Suspected political thugs.

He also added that he does not know those who sponsored them against the PDP.

The PDP said, the Zamfara State Government does not have the right to stop political campaigns given the fact that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Electoral act 2022 and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria have given political parties a go ahead to kickstart their presidential campaigns on 28th September and Governorship on October 12, 2022.

He,therefore, advised the State Government that if its wants the campaign timetable to be adjusted for Zamfara State, it should write to the electoral body seeking for it to shift the campaign forward in the State.

Meanwhile, the Zamfara State Government accused the PDP of violation of the ban on political gatherings which was recently announced by the Bello Mohammed’s administration to curb the resurgence of Terrorists’activities in the State.

The State’s Deputy Governor Senator Hassan Nasiha alleged that the Peoples Democratic Party PDP members had attacked 18 environmental sanitation staff who were performing their duties at the Gusau GRA during the major opposition party’s political activity in the State.

He observed that for the PDP to insist on holding its political gatherings inspite of the ban on the activities till further notice, the party took the law into their hands and the State Government will take necessary action to deal with the situation.

The Zamfara State Government has therefore ordered the shutdown of the Nigerian Television Authority, NTA Gusau, Federal Radio Corporation of Nigerian, Prime FM, and other privately owned Media organizations for covering the PDP event in the State.
