The People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Zamfara State has faulted the directive of governor Bello Mohammed to People of the State to procure firearms for self- Defence against Terrorists who are unleashing terror on them daily.

The State PDP secretary, Faruk Ahmed made the party’s position known while briefing journalists in Gusau, the State capital over the State of insecurity in Zamfara State.

The Zamfara State governor, Bello Mohammed had last Sunday directed People of the State to prepare and obtain license to bear firearms to defend themselves against the Terrorists in the State.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the State has faulted that directive, saying it could lead to further anarchy and chaos in the State.

The State Secretary of the party Faruk Ahmed affirmed that, it was the constitutional responsibility of the State and Federal Governments to ensure the security of lives and property of the citizens.

He said the PDP members who are peace- loving and law – abiding wonder why the Zamfara State and Federal Governments would shift their constitutional responsibilities to citizens who are not allowed by law to bear firearms.

Ahmed added, that the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC administration’s failure has left governor Bello Mohammed with no option but to manipulate the insecurity situation in the State to witch-hunt opposition Political parties.

The PDP claimed the decision is a deliberate move to divert public resources and attention.

Faruk Ahmed, therefore appealed to security chiefs to move fast to stop the Zamfara State governor from embarking on what he terms dangerous plan to allow civilians to bear firearms for self-defense.

He said, “We are calling on the inspector General of Police, the Department of State Service, DSS and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSDC to place their eagle eye on the ill-intention of targeting opposition Political parties using the various Committees set up by the Zamfara State Government.
