Zamfara Stakeholders sensitization workshop

Stakeholders at a one-day sensitization workshop in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital have harped on the need employers of corps members to give top priority to the welfare and security of corps members posted to their organizations, to enable them give their best while contributing to the community and national development.

They made the submission during an annual one-day sensitization workshop for corps members’ employers in both the public and private organizations in Zamfara State.

The State Coordinator of the National Youths Service Corps, Namallam Mohammed said, the one-day sensitization workshop is being organized to bring stakeholders under one roof, to discuss the challenges corps members are facing and to proffer solutions to them.

He highlighted the challenges of corps members to include; lack of accommodation, welfare and security.

He explained that it is the responsibility of corp members’ employers to ensure the welfare and security of the corps members posted to their organizations.

The Zamfara State Commissioner for Youth And Sports, represented by Salisu Umar, commended the organizers of the workshop which will assist stakeholders to step up efforts to ensure the welfare of corps members in the state.

The representative of the state’s Ministry Of Education, Zalihat Sallau, frowned at the indecent dressing of some corps members, calling on them to learn to dress well, particularly those posted to schools to teach, so that they set good examples to their students.

One of the resource persons, Rilwanu Abdullahi, from the Department of Biochemistry, Federal University, Gusau, whose presentation focused on the improvement of corps welfare and security, emphasized the need for corps members’ employers to put in place, security measures to protect the corps members, provide transportation and accommodation to enhance their productivity.

Other stakeholders believe that the scheme is contributing enormously to fostering peace, unity and harmonious co-existence of Nigerians, hence the need for corps members to ensure that the objective of the NYSC is achieved.
