Zamfara Governor, Bello Mohammed has launched the state’s Covid-19 Action Recovery and Stimulus Programme, CARES.

He said CARES is a stimulus programme, conceived by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, and introduced in all the 36 states of the federation, as well as the Federal Capital Territory, FCT. It is being implemented with the support of the World Bank.

The Zamfara State Covid-19 Action Recovery and Stimulus Programme, CARES, will have as its Motto; “Matawalle Vision 2023.”

Governor Mohammed while inaugurating the Covid-19 Action Steering Committee, said it will accomplish its responsibilities through social transfer, livelihood grants, provision of basic structures, support to medium and small scale enterprises, and ensuring food security.

He noted that banditry has threatened food security and the general economic growth of the state.

He, however, expressed confidence that the programme would, in addition, work with the State First Lady’s Office, to address the issue of malnutrition in the state, and serve as a panacea to positive changes and development of the state.

Governor Mohammed stated that despite the impediments caused by insecurity and the Covid-19 pandemic, his administration has made huge investment in primary, secondary and tertiary education, healthcare delivery, roads infrastructure, construction of a cargo airport, and other projects, to turn around the fortunes of the state.

According to Governor Mohammed, the programme will be delivered through the three platforms of Community And  Social Development  Agency, CSDC, FADAMA, the Ministry of Commerce and the State’s CARES Coordinating Unit.

The government is expected to interact with members of the steering committee, to ensure adequate supervision of the delivery platforms to deliver the services that are required.

Members of the Zamfara State Covid-19 Action Recovery and Stimulus Programme are drawn from the private and public sectors seasoned technocrats. It is being chaired by the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Ibrahim Magayaki.
