The Zenith Labour Party, (ZLP) has clarified that the Independent National Electoral commission, (INEC) did not extend the primary elections deadline because of the ruling All Progressives Congress, (APC) as reported by the media.
Addressing journalists in Abuja ahead of the party’s primary election, the National Chairman, Dan Nwanyanwu said the 18 political parties under the Intra-party advisory council, (IPAC) had in the last few weeks mounted pressure on INEC to shift the date but the electoral umpire had refused.

He said he was shocked that INEC eventually bowed to the pressure a week after the last meeting.
Nwanyanwu noted that the deadline extension of presidential primaries and continuous registration of members into political parties do not violate the existing law and and party constitutions.
INEC’s adjustment of the electoral timetable enabled the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) to shift its governorship primaries from May 20th to June 1st while the convention and presidential primaries for all aspirants will be conducted on the 4th of June from an earlier scheduled date of June 1st.
