137 out of the 287 hostages kidnapped from Kuriga school have been freed.

According to a statement from the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, “In the early hours of March 24, 2024, the Military, in collaboration with Local Authorities and Government Agencies, conducted a co-ordinated search and rescue operation resulting in the liberation of the hostages.

These individuals are the same ones abducted from the school in Kuriga, Chikun LGA, Kaduna State.”

The rescued hostages, totaling 137, comprise 76 females and 61 males. They were rescued in Zamfara State and will be transported and handed over to the Kaduna State Government for further action.

The statement emphasizes that “These efforts will persist until all other hostages are found, and the terrorists responsible are apprehended, tried, and brought to justice under Nigerian law.

Similar efforts are being made to apprehend the perpetrators responsible for the killing of 18 soldiers in Okuama Community of Delta State. Justice awaits these culprits; they cannot evade punishment.”

Recall that on March 7, 2024, troops received information that terrorists had attacked the LEA School in Kuriga, Chikun LG, Kaduna State. During the incident, an unconfirmed number of pupils were abducted. Subsequently, the military vowed to spare no effort until all hostages were rescued.
