A year-old baby and another adult male have been reported killed in the flood-ravaged Sabon Ungwa community in the Katsina metropolis, following a downpour.
Another area that witnessed severe flooding was the recent 5.8 billion Naira Kofar Kaura Underpass Bridges, constructed by the immediate past Governor, Aminu Masari, in 2022.
The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, had predicted that 14 states and 31 communities may witness heavy rainfall, that may lead to flooding from July 4–8 across the country.
Katsina State is one of them.
As a result of the development, Governor Dikko Radda has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families, assuring that he has initiated measures to address the situation and prevent such incidents from recurring.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Muhammad, the governor pledged to identify the root causes of the flood and implement measures to mitigate the risks associated with downpours and infrastructure vulnerabilities.

Radda has also directed the Deputy Governor to engage with the contractors responsible for the underpass construction, to investigate the root cause of the disaster.
The governor also assured the affected residents that his administration is fully dedicated to addressing their concerns promptly, through collaborative efforts, between the government, relevant authorities, and experts, and by developing sustainable solutions that will safeguard the community against future incidents.
The Kofar Kaura area within the metropolis is usually known for its yearly flooding.
