No fewer than 2000 residents in Owerri, the Imo State capital, South East Nigeria have benefitted from a free medical treatment initiated by the Imo State government
The beneficiaries were treated of several ailments including; eye surgery, dental and glottis tumor surgeries, caesarean sections, among others.
The services were conducted by a team of Imo State born medical practitioners in the diaspora.
It was a 10-day free medical outreach to engender quality health and life for aged persons, youths, women and children who may not have access to periodic medical check ups, and those who cannot afford their medical bills.
Leader of the medical doctors from diaspora, Doctor Chinaka Nwosu commended the initiative saying it gives an opportunity for everyone to know their health status and called for more sponsors to enable the programme get to the rural communities.

Some of the beneficiaries thanked the State government for providing succour to them and bringing the services closer to the people at no cost.
In a more comprehensive healthcare programme, the current administration in Imo State has embarked on the construction of hospitals in some local government areas of the state to ensure adequate health care services for the vulnerable members of the society.
