As Nigeria moves closer to the 2023 general elections, Governor Douye Diri of Bayelsa State has issued a stern warning that he will not hesitate to dethrone any traditional ruler that engages in partisan politics and allow his domain to be used by politicians to destabilize the electoral process in the State.
Diri issued the riot act when he addressed with first-class traditional rulers in the State at the Traditional Rulers Council meeting in Yenagoa on Thursday.
He said the meeting was aimed at sharing ideas that would drive development in the State.
The meeting was the first between the Gov. Diri and First-Class Royal Majesties in the State under the Chairmanship of His Royal Majesty King Bubaraye Dakolo.

The Governor expressed concerned over the electoral process ahead of general elections next year especially at the grassroots, urging the monarchs to remain as neutral as possible to pave way for level playing field for all political parties.
He also called for unity amongst the traditional rulers and citizens of the State.
The traditional rulers however requested the Governor to make provision for adequate security and more teachers in the rural areas and a better welfare package for the monarchs.
