Governments at all levels have been called upon to provide an immediate solution to the current economic hardship and look into the plight of civil servants.

The call was made by leaders of the organised labour unions during the 2024 Workers Day celebration held at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi State, North East Nigeria.

Members of the organised labour in Bauchi State, North East Nigeria, joined their counterparts across the country to mark this year’s International Workers Day celebration, with a colourful parade, performed by the various unions.

The 2024 annual celebration was observed in a unique way, as various labour unions presented their demands, which included, poor wage allowances, insufficient power supply and the current fuel scarcity, which, according to them, if addressed, would change the country for the better.

The Chairmen of the organised labour in Bauchi State, Comrade Dauda Shuaibu and Sabiu Ningi of the Nigeria Labour Congress, (NLC), and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), appealed to the Federal Government to refrain from its plans to take charge of the entire workforce of the country.

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, represented by his deputy, Auwal Jatau, appealed to the labour unions to remain optimistic, as the government is working hard to improve both their financial and living conditions.

As this year’s Workers’ Day is commemorated amidst the current hardship, it is expected that governments at all levels will continue with the various measures, aimed at alleviating the plight of the people.
