East African athletes have once again dominated the Enugu City International Marathon, sweeping the elite medals in the 42-kilometre race.
But while Kenya and Ethiopia took the major prizes, Nigeria had its own moment of glory in the shorter race.
Meet the winners of the second Enugu City International Marathon.
Kenyan Edwin Kipyego emerged winner of the men’s 42-kilometre race, while Ethiopian Zennebe Aberu took the women’s category.
Both champions went home with $15,000 each, while the first and second runners-up in both categories also came from Kenya and Ethiopia.
Nigeria’s consolation came in the 10-kilometre race, where 20-year-old Patience Dalyop from Plateau State crossed the finish line first.

Presenting the medals, Governor Peter Mbah, represented by his deputy, Ifeanyi Ossai says the state is committed to raising the standard of the marathon with every edition.
Tagged “Tomorrow Runs Here,” the marathon is Enugu’s second consecutive international race, as the state continues its push to make the Coal City a major destination for sports and international events.
