Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has urged intending pilgrims from the state to pray for the peace, unity and progress of Nigeria, while also conducting themselves as worthy ambassadors of Edo State during the 2026 Hajj exercise.

The governor gave the charge during a farewell ceremony held at the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board in Benin City, where Islamic clerics, traditional rulers and leaders of various Islamic organisations gathered to offer prayers for a successful pilgrimage.

95 intending pilgrims from Edo State are set to depart for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for the 2026 Hajj exercise.

The pilgrims gathered at the Edo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board office in Benin City for a farewell ceremony attended by Islamic clerics, traditional rulers and leaders of various Islamic organisations, who offered prayers for a successful and hitch-free pilgrimage.

Representing Governor Monday Okpebholo at the event, the Secretary to the Edo State Government, Musa Ikhilor, said the administration remains committed to supporting the Muslim community and ensuring the welfare of pilgrims throughout the Hajj exercise.

Ikhilor also advised the pilgrims to remain united during their stay in the holy land and avoid separating themselves from their designated groups.

In his remarks, the Oghieaga of Ivbie, HRH Mallam Ali Sulayman, urged the intending pilgrims to reciprocate the government’s support by conducting themselves responsibly and serving as worthy ambassadors of Edo State and Nigeria.

The Edo State contingent for the 2026 Hajj exercise comprises 45 female and 50 male pilgrims, including officials.
