The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has announced a fresh adjustment to the campaign timetable for the 2026 Osun State Governorship Election following the rescheduling of the polls.

INEC had earlier moved the Osun State governorship election forward by one week, from Saturday, August 8, 2026, to Saturday, August 15, 2026 as contained in the Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Elections released on February 26, 2026.

The information contained in a statement by INEC and signed by its National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, explains that as a result of the one-week shift, the official end of campaign activities in Osun State is now fixed for midnight, Thursday, August 13, 2026 in line with Section 98(1) of the Electoral Act 2026, which mandates that all political campaigns must stop 24 hours before election day.

The Commission urges all Political Parties, Candidates, and Stakeholders to strictly comply with the revised timeline as it explains further that the adjustment is purely consequential and does not affect other aspects of the Osun Governorship Election process that have already been concluded.

While it promises to deliver a free, fair, credible and inclusive Governorship election in Osun State, the Commission advises all Political parties and candidates to immediately review and adjust their campaign schedules to ensure they conclude all rallies, public meetings, media broadcasts, and advertisements before the new midnight deadline on August 13, 2026 as it warns that any campaign activities carried out within the prohibited 24-hour period may attract sanctions as provided by the Electoral Act.
