Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu has said that arrests for electoral offences will no longer be allowed to end without prosecution as the country prepares for the 2027 General Elections.
Disu, addressing senior Police officers at the ongoing CARSPO 2026 in Owerri, the Imo State capital explained the Police will work with INEC, the EFCC, ICPC and prosecutors to investigate vote-buying and other forms of electoral inducements, and ensure that suspects face trial.
The IGP notes that impunity encourages electoral crime and is warning politicians and their supporters against hiring thugs, moving arms, buying votes or threatening voters and electoral officials.
He is also directing Police Commands to activate intelligence and early-warning systems and begin mapping electoral flashpoints and criminal networks ahead of the elections.
