Recent figures from the World Health Organization, WHO puts the total figure of people with sight challenges that can lead to complete blindness globally at roughly 40 million.
It also projects an approximate number of 250 million others who are visually impaired.
The statistics puts Africa ahead of other countries in the global index of continents with the highest number of persons living with sight challenges.

This informed the gathering of some health sector players at a forum in Lagos State, South-West Nigeria to find ways of changing the narrative and addressing sight challenges, particularly among women and children.
