Seven school pupils and two adults have been successfully rescued following a devastating flood incident on Tuesday morning along the Nibo-Ishiagu Road in Akwa South Local Government Area of Anambra State, South-East Nigeria.
The devastating flood caused havoc in the local communities after a late night rain persisted till early Tuesday, when some school children and adults who ventured out of their homes were caught up in the floods.
A statement released by the Police in Anambra State explained that the Command’s Safe School Initiative and local community members rescued at least seven school children and two adults while one school child is still unaccounted for.
Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga says the police has activated sustained search and rescue operations in the affected area.
Parents, guardians, school authorities and motorists have been told to exercise extreme caution around flooded roads, bridges and waterways in the state, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
