An 85- year-old veteran soldier, Warrant Officer Paul Ojo, who was forcefully evicted from his home by officials of the Kaduna State Urban Planning Development Agency, KASUPDA, at Kabala Costain has been given a three-bedroom apartment by the Nigerian Army.
The General Officer Commanding One Division of the Nigeria Army, Major General Usman Muhammed, who represented the Chief of Army Staff, said the welfare of soldiers both serving and retired remains a priority.
In August, the KASUPDA in the company of armed policemen forcefully evicted the 85-year-old veteran soldier from the house he had lived in for 20 years at Kabala Costain.
The retired Warrant Officer of the Nigerian Army had called for intervention and dragged the agency to court.
His call was heeded as the Army Chief weighed into the matter by providing him an alternative three bedroom apartment at Angwan Maigero.
While presenting the keys of the apartment to the octogenarian, the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-general Tukur Buratai, said the Army will continue to prioritize the welfare of its personnel both serving and retired.
