Troops of 82 Division Garrison of the Nigerian Army deployed on Operation MESA at Inyi checkpoint in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State have intercepted a petrol tanker with registration number; Adamawa YLA 457 ZV, loaded with foreign rice.
Handing over the items to the Nigerian Custom Service, NCS, the Commander, Brigadier-General Christopher Ataki, said that the contraband rice which was neatly concealed in the Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, segment of the tanker was intercepted through reliable intelligence by the troops at the checkpoint.

The Area Comptroller of Customs in charge of Enugu, Anambra, and Ebonyi Command, Maria Baya, expressed appreciation for the synergy and cooperation that exist between the two agencies and advised smugglers to have a rethink.

Preliminary investigation by the military revealed that the tanker belongs to Bungel Company in Adamawa State while the contraband items belong to a yet to be identified person in Warri, Deta State.
Items found inside the tanker include a hundred bags of foreign rice, one bag of beans, one bag of sugar cane, and one bag of onion.
The suspects have been handed over to the NCS for further investigation and prosecution.
