The dethronement of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II has divided members of the Kano State House of Assembly with the lawmakers adjoining plenary by one week.

Trouble started when the Deputy Speaker, Hamisu Chidari, attempted to introduce a discussion on the petition against the Emir that was not on the order paper.

The Speaker, Abdulaziz Gafasa, suspended sitting for 30 minutes when members became rowdy and attempted to remove the mace.

When members returned after normalcy was restored then the news about the State Executive Council dethroning the Emir filtered into the chambers.

The Assembly immediately adjourned sitting till Monday next week.

The Majority Leader, Kabiru Dashi, said he supports the government’s decision.

Opinions in Kano are divided on the dethronement of the Emir, Muhammad Sanusi II, who becomes the second occupant of the throne to be deposed in the history of Kano.
