The police has confirmed the abduction of former Nasarawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Onje Gye-Wado in the earlier hours of Friday by gunmen who invaded Gwagi village in Wamba LGA.
Police Public Relations Officer in Nasarawa State, DSP Ramhan Nansel confirmed this to journalists in a statement in Lafia, the state capital. He explained that upon receipt of the information, Police operatives attached to Wamba Division swiftly moved to the scene, but the hoodlums had fled with the victim before their arrival.
He noted that the Commissioner of Police, Maiyaki Baba has mobilized and deployed reinforcement comprising of Police tactical teams, military, vigilante, and local hunters to complement ongoing search to rescue the victim hale and hearty and arrest the perpetrators of the act.
The Police Commissioner also reassured the general public, especially the family of Professor Gye-Wado of their commitment to give the criminals a tough time in the state. Professor Onje Gye-Wado served as Deputy Governor under the current National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu was Governor between 1999 and 2003.
Onje has also served in different capacities as Dean of the Faculty of Law, Nasarawa State University; Head of Law Department, National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, NIPSS Kuru; and National Commissioner in the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission among others.
