No fewer than 12 persons are reported to have died in a fatal car accident that occurred on the Enugu/Abakaliki Expressway on Tuesday morning.

Involved in the accident were a DAF Trailer and a Ford shuttle bus.

An eyewitness account says the accident occurred as the Bus had a head-on collision with the Trailer around the Ishielu and Nkalagu Axis of the road.

The state Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission, Esther Uchegbu who confirmed the incident to ait.live on the Phone, reveals that fourteen persons were involved in the accident.

Uchegbu says twelve persons including ten female and two male passengers were confirmed dead, while two persons who survived are receiving treatment at a yet-to-be-disclosed hospital.

The accident is blamed on excessive speeding, wrongful overtaking, and loss of control.
