Fresh Controversy Looms Over Tinubu’s Alleged Pejury, Irregularities On INEC’s Documents

There are strong indications that President-elect, Bola Tinubu may face a fresh case of pejury as it has been alleged that he lied under oath to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC after documents show he is a Guinean Citizen.

Independent Journalist, David Hundeyin had uploaded images of a Guinean diplomatic passport bearing “Bola Ahmed Tinubu on his Twitter account.

The passport issued in October 20I5 bore the image of Nigeria’s President-elect, Bola Tinubu.

Tinubu had ticked “NO” in response to questions posed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on the EC-9 form bothering on voluntary acquisition of citizenship of another country.

While the former Lagos State Governor is not barred from an election due to dual citizenship, the appendage of his signature on the form under oath that “the information given out on the form was correct” could raise issues of pejury against Tinubu.

But enquiries from the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Office says the allegation lacks substance while insisting that the President-Elect did not lie under oath.

It is not clear if the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party will amend the grounds for challenging the victory of Bola Tinubu in the February 25, 2023 Presidential Election to accommodate this case of alleged pejury.

However, expiration of the 21-day time frame for the amendment of petitions as laid down in the electoral Act may be a big challenge in the attempt to stop Bola Tinubu from achieving his lifetime ambition.
