Kogi State council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists has cautioned aggrieved aspirants in the just concluded Governorship primary elections in the state to be wary of their utterances against journalists.

Chairman of the state council of NUJ, Comrade Adeiza Momohjimoh, said reports by certain politicians that the primary elections did not hold anywhere in the state were not just far from the truth but also a mark of disrespect for journalists who covered the elections widely and reported their findings accordingly.

The just concluded primary elections in Kogi State has continued to generate mixed reactions with some politicians lambasting practicing journalists in the State for allegedly not being accurate in their reportage of the process.

But the Journalists’ union in the State has since dismissed such insinuations as untrue and called on politicians who may have lost out in the process to exercise restraint in their utterances against the media.

The NUJ chairman in Kogi advised politicians to always explore conventional means of seeking redress whenever they are aggrieved.

The union called on its members to continually uphold high ethical and professional standards at all times regardless of comments made to dampen their morale and discourage them from performing their legitimate duties.
