The need to postpone the rescheduled National Population Census has been advocated by the Methodist Church Nigeria over incessant security challenges across the country.

Methodist Archbishop of Calabar, Most Rev Chimezuo Nwankpa, made the call while speaking in Calabar to round up the 47th Synod of the church.

The church said with the spate of insecurity in the North Central, North West and South Eastern part of Nigeria, any National Census conducted will be ridiculed and it’s unacceptable.

He cited Communities in Benue,Niger, Kaduna,Anambra, Imo and some parts of the Country as black Spots that would be difficult to access and get accurate figures for the census exercise.

The Methodist Archbishop said population census cannot be conducted with verified figures, when the enumerators are unable to access all the nooks and crannies of the country.

The position of the church was contained in a communique signed by the church President, Prof Miranda Dosunmu and communique committee chairman, Offiong Unoh as well as Archbishop Nwankpa, saying high level of insecurity across the country is an impediment to the accurate population data and figures.
