The Obong of Calabar, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu V, has charged the National Population Commission NPC, to adequately prepare its personnel with tested and trusted equipment, that will guarantee accurate and acceptable results ahead of the 2023 digital census exercise.
Speaking when he recieved the National Population Commission’s (NPC)State Publicity Committee team in his palace, the Obong said beyond counting, accepting the result is also very important through the verified data collected across the country.
The Obong who said there is need for all citizens to be counted during the exercise, explained that population of Calabar and its environment has grown tremendously, hence the need for accurate census figures in the State.
He promised that the people of Calabar in particular and Cross River State will fully support the 2023 National Census through adequate sensitization and advocacy that will ensure everyone is counted during the exercise.
Speaking earlier, Cross River State Commissioner for Information and Chairman of the 2023 Census Publicity Committee Eric Anderson while thanking the Obong and his council,said the importance of the Census exercise to national needs assessment, planning and development cannot be downplayed.
Anderson, said the 2023 edition will not only take statistics of people, but will also take into account houses, natural resources and other amenities.
The NPC visiting Team include, the State Director, National Population Commission, Stanley Itam, CAN Chairman in Cross River State, among others who assured the Obong that the State had already been properly demarcated into units to enhance smooth and accurate exercise.
