The Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT in Akwa Ibom State has called off its four -day- old strike action after resolving all outstanding issues with the Akwa Ibom State Government.
The decision was taken after a meeting with Governor Udom Emmanuel, Government officials and the leadership of the state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT at Government House, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.
What was a major boost to public primary and secondary school teachers ahead of the International Workers day celebration in Akwa Ibom State, was that issues affecting their welfare were amicably resolved by the state Governor, Udom Emmanuel.
The State Chairman of the NUT, Edet Emenyi praised the Governor for his friendly disposition and assured him that they will resume work immediately.
The State Commissioner for Education, Idongesit Etiebet was relieved that the issues had been peacefully resolved.
State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Sunny James, who was part of the meeting, commended the Governor for his timely intervention.
Public and private schools in Akwa Ibom State resumed academic activities for the third term last Tuesday after the second term and Easter holidays but public schools were shut down as a result of the strike.
