Again, a youth, Ifeanyi Arunsi, from Ebem-Ohafia in Abia State, has been allegedly killed by a police officer, in Ohafia.
An eye witness says a private vehicle used by some policemen brushed a parked truck, close to a supermarket, which ignited a hot argument between the owner of the supermarket and the policemen.
AIT gathered that as the scuffle continued, one of the policemen shot and killed a worker in the supermarket.
This according to the him, resulted to civil unrest as the police van among other vehicles, the police station and customary court were burnt by angry youths, before a detachment of soldiers came to control the situation.
In a statement, the Abia State Police Command condemned the incident saying that it is regrettable and not tolerated by the Nigerian Police Force.
The statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Geofrey Ogbonna, explained that the policemen were from a drinking joint, in a private vehicle, before the incident occurred, insisting that they were under the influence of alcohol.
Ogbonna says the erring policemen have been arrested for investigation and eventual prosecution.
