The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC has commended the Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike for his firm, strong, committed and personally leading the response to COVID-19 in the state.

Director general of the NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu while applauding the governor for his efforts in combating the deadly disease also commended the rivers state government on how the 2 discharged cases of covid-19 in the state have been managed; saying that it’s an example for the rest of the country.

Ihekweazu is on a working visit to rivers state leading a joint team of the NCDC and the world health organization to engage the Rivers State COVID-19 response team on a number of issues, including ways to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, hear the challenges as well as work on improving existing relationship to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the NCDC says it will beef up its surveillance in the oil rich State.

With the effect of the lockdown measures put in place to contain the spread of covid-19, now biting hard, dr. Ihekweazu admits that the country cannot afford to have a prolonged lockdown situation.

He therefore wants the federal and state governments to commence preparation for what he calls a post lockdown Nigeria as the centre and federal ministry of health would no longer be recommending an extension of the lockdown.
