Katsina State receives another 148 Almajiri children from Gombe State

Following the decision of the 19 Northern Governors to ban the Almajiri system with the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases across states in the region, the Katsina State government has received another batch of 148 Almajiri children from Gombe state.

Secretary to the Katsina State government, Mustapha Inuwa who received them on behalf of the state government said, plans are underway to enroll all the Almajiri returnees into different vocational trainings.

Shortly after receiving the Almajiri pupils, the Kastina state government provided them with food and subjected them to medical examination.

He also spoke on the plans of the state government to return non-indigenous Almajiri children to their respective states of origin but, in a more dignifying manner.

On the future of the Almajiri returnees, acting permanent secretary ministry of science, technology and innovation, Yusuf Muazu said, the state government is planning to enroll them into the youths craft village to learn some vocations for self-reliance.

This set of returnees brings to 576 the total number of Almajiri children of Katsina State origin so far received from both Kano and Gombe states amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
