NCDC to finally visit Cross River and Kogi States

The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control, NCDC will now visit Kogi and Cross River States to provide support to their response to the coronavirus pandemic.

The presidential taskforce on COVID-19 announced these following what the chairman, Boss Mustapha says are engagements with the two state governors.

The Presidential Task Force On Covid-19 returned to its regular briefing, after meeting with members of the House of Representatives On Tuesday to answer questions on Nigeria’s Fight against Coronavirus, particularly on the situation in Kano State.

Chairman of the Task Force, Boss Mustapha ALSO announced extension of the ban on all flights for another 4 weeks in line with experts advice. Meanwhile, the Aviation Minister, Hidi Siriks had explained what is being done ahead of commencement of operations at the Airports.

Health Minister, Osagie Ehanire and NCDC Director-General, Chikwe Ihekweazu said efforts are still on to increase testing capacity and called on all frontline workers to continue to take precautions while discharging their duties.

THE MINISTER who acknowledged complaints over delay in release of test results by the NCDC said everything is being done to resolve the issues.

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouk said arrangements have been concluded to resume School Feeding Programme for children in response to the pandemic, while the Information and Culture Minister, Lai Mohammed cleared the air on the Commitee that was set up to look into the impact of Covid-19 and the nature of government intervention for the media and creative industry.

The Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama confirmed that government has outsourced the collection of flights payment for Nigerians to be evacuated from the United Kingdom to an agent.

It will be recalled that Cross River and Kogi are the only states yet to officially report any case of Coronavirus infection. The governments of the 2 states have accused the NCDC of plots to announce positive cases in their respective states that have hardly provided samples to be tested for Coronavirus.

It was 100 days on Wednesday since the index case of Coronavirus was reported in Nigeria, but with available data and the increase in number of confirmed cases, health experts and indeed Nigerians are of the view that government needs do more to further stop the spread of virus.
