Hosts of tertiary institutions in Bauchi State without access to education

The host communities of tertiary institutions in Bauchi State, North-East Nigeria have been described as one of the most disadvantaged in accessing formal quality education systems in the state.

A non-governmental organization, NGO said this during a visit to some of the host communities, on awareness creation, most especially for women and the youth where an empowerment program was also inaugurated in the area.

Birshi Fulani is the host community of the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, and to some extent, shares a political ward with the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, ATBU in the state.

Speaker after speaker at the awareness campaign, spoke extensively on the need for the people of Birshi Fulani to take good advantage of the institutions located in their community.

The Community Youth Leader, Mahmoud Musa, said poverty, as well as the high birth rate, have been the major hindrances for parents to take their children to school.

The NGO with assistance from the United States Embassy, inaugurated power equipment, as a source of generating income for the host communities, to reduce the high rate of poverty among the residents.
