The International Food Policy Research Institute has inaugurated a Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research Initiative on fragility, conflict, and migration.

The Institute has also released a report on the 2023 global food policy titled “Rethinking Food Crisis Responses” with the expectation that the consultative group would work with the report focusing on a critical approach to the food crisis and conflict.

The Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research, CGIAR, is a global partnership that unites international organizations engaged in research for food security. It is aimed at reducing rural poverty, improving human health and nutrition as well as sustainable management of natural resources.

A senior research fellow with the International Food Policy Research Institute, Katrina Kosec, said for Nigeria to achieve her desired goals on food availability and accessibility, the Federal Government must be proactive in tackling the country’s food crisis.

Kosec said by taking a systems approach and working in partnership with critical players, the Institute seeks to generate evidence to inform policies that promote social and gender equity, climate resilience, conflict mitigation, and peacebuilding.

The report offers critical evidence to support effective policies to enhance food, land, and water system resilience in fragile and conflict-affected countries.

The 2023 Global Food Policy titled “Rethinking Food Crisis Responses”
focuses majorly on crisis prediction and preparation, building resilience, and crisis response that is supportive and inclusive of women, forced migrants, and the vulnerable.
