As the Coronavirus pandemic continues to take its toll on global health, medical doctors at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital in Akure, Ondo State, have staged a protest to demand for the payment of backlog of their salaries.
The doctors issued a one week ultimatum to the State Government to pay their 5-month salary arrears or they will be forced to embark on indefinite strike.
The doctors, under the auspices of Association of Resident Doctors, ARD, are accusing the State Government of owing them salary arrears, ranging from 3 to 6 months, despite their services.
Armed with placards of different inscriptions, the protesting doctors frowned at the alleged insensitivity of the State Government to their plight.
They also lamented that they lack personal protective equipment to treat patients, especially in the face of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The doctors issued a 7-day ultimatum to the State Government to meet their demands or they will be forced to embark on an indefinite strike.
Meanwhile, efforts to get the reaction of the State Commissioner for Health, Wahab Adegbenro on the matter, failed.
