President Muhammadu Buhari says Nigeria was delisted from the list of piracy prone countries by the International Maritime Bureau during his administration.

Buhari made this known in Lagos, South-West Nigeria at the 2023 Presidential Fleet Review where he unveiled the National Maritime Security Strategy, commending the Nigerian Navy for the effective use of its vessels in the fight against resource theft, counter drug operations and piracy.

Sixteen warships and three AW109E helicopters participated in the colourful fleet review organised in honour of President
Buhari, as part of activities to mark the end of the current political dispensation as he hands over on Monday, May 29 to President-elect, Bola Tinubu.

Meanwhile, President Buhari dressed in ceremonial Naval uniform inaugurated two new ships, NNS IBENO and NNS KADA along with one helicopter, AW 109E AGUSTA at the Naval Dockyard while in Lagos State.

Speaking at the ceremony, Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Auwal Zubairu Gambo, said the Nigerian Navy has put the vessels to good use successfully fighting against resource theft, counter drug operations and piracy.
