Delta State

The Delta State government says it has taken life insurance for 2, 557 health workers as a motivation to their selfless efforts in fighting Covid-19 and for them to embark on community testing based on evidence of transmission in 6 Local Government Areas of the state.

Commissioner for health, Mordi Ononye who doubles as the chairman technical committee on covid-19 said the state risk communication team has embarked on aggressive sensitisation, reaching the unreached on proper hygiene guidelines against covid-19.

Ononye explained that since the outbreak of the virus, the state has been on top of the problem based on the experience gathered during the outbreak of Lassa Fever coupled with its recent procurement of molecular laboratory which has increased the state’s testing capacity.

The commissioner and his information counterpart, Charles Aniagwu further urged people with terminal illnesses to be extremely careful as they are at the high risk of contracting the virus.

The two commissioners attributed stigmatisation to lukewarm attitude of people not showing up for treatment but rather indulge in self-medication including propaganda.

So far, Delta State after the index case on April 7 involving the 50-year old man now has 27 confirmed cases from 9 lgas, 12 patients discharged with 10 currently in the hospital and 5 deaths.
