The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Ekiti state command has linked poor academic performance, and health-related issues, among other social challenges to drug abuse particularly among young people.

The state Commandant of NDLEA, Ariyo Anthony stated this on Sunday in Aisegba Ekiti shortly after a novelty match organized to sensitize youths against the dangers of substance abuse.

The Ekiti state command of NDLEA has promised to strengthen ongoing efforts to sensitize youths on the dangers of drug abuse in the state.

Ariyo appealed to residents to partner with the agency by providing relevant information that could help in curbing the menace of drug abuse among young people.

Others who were at the sensitization novelty match say the increase in drug abuse among the youths has affected the crime rate in the country, with a call for proper parental guidance.

Some of the participants at the novelty match say substance abuse has over the years led to increased medical, social, economic, and psychological consequences on users, families, and society at large, advising youths against anti-social conduct in their daily engagement.
