The Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle, has said Almajiri are welcome to live in the state and that the state government has no plan to ask them to leave.
According to a press statement from the Governor’s media aide, Matawalle made the statement when he received in audience two Islamic scholars, Sheikh Abdullahi Dallah Dallah, Chief Imam of Sambo Dan-Ashafa Jumaat Mosque, Gusau and Sheikh Bello Kanwa at his country home, Maradun.
The Governor dissolved the Committee initially set up on the evacuation of Almajiri from the state.
He said the decision to accommodate Almajiri followed a careful study of the system in the state, hinting that all that was needed was to integrate it into western education for the purpose of acquiring quality education in both western and Islamic knowledge.
