Burkina Faso national, 250 others arrested for illegal mining in Zamfara State

Security operatives in Zamfara State have apprehended about 250 illegal miners, including a Burkina Faso national.

They were caught at mining sites in Anka, Bukkuyum and Gumi Local Government Areas of the state, by a joint security operation in Zamfara State led by the Commander of One Brigade of the Nigerian Army in Gusau, Brigadier General Olatokunbo Bello.

The arrest of the illegal miners followed a marching order by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu and the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Tukur Buratai,to their personnel to go after the illegal miners in Zamfara State.

On the pockets of attacks in the state, the Commander, One Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Brigadier General Olatokunbo Bello said, the security operatives are applying the carrot and stick approach, to bring the situation to an end.

Also speaking,Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, CP, Usman Nagogo, warned those engaging in the illegal mining in the state to stop, as security agencies would deal with defaulters according to the law.

CP Nagogo added that the suspects would be arraigned as soon as the courts reopen.
