No fewer than 5 people, including a female food vendor, have been killed by gunmen during the Covid-19 nationwide curfew in Nzharuvo village, about 15 miles west of Jos, the Plateau State capital in North-Central Nigeria.

The gunmen suspected to be herdsmen bearing AK-47 were said to have opened fire at a fast food joint, around 10pm, killing all the people inside the shop, according to an eyewitness who pleaded anonymity.

Also attacked by the gunmen, is the councillor representing Tahu Ward in Bassa Local Government Legislative Council, Tigard Chayi. He said “they fired several rounds at me, bursting my tyre but I sped with my head down till I escaped”.

The State Police Command spokesman, Gabriel Uba, while confirming the development to AIT said the Commissioner of Police, Edward Egbuka, on hearing the news immediately visited the community and ordered the deployment of security personnel.

AIT Gathered that, shortly after the attack, a truck carrying 10 herders took off few meters away from the scene of the attack but was intercepted by vigilante operatives.

The 10 herdsmen claimed they were heading to Jos from Shendam which is a local government in the southern part of the State. Nzharuvo community leader, Ishaya Musa says there is however no road linking Jos and Shendam anywhere in Bassa Local Government where the killings took place.
