Armed security operatives raid private homes of former Zamfara Governor, Bello Matawalle in Gusau and Maradun LGAs

Heavily armed security operatives have raised the private residence of former Zamfara State Governor, Bello Matawalle in Gusau and his hometown in Maradun Local Government Areas and evacuated many exotic cars.

The security operatives including police and personnel of the Department of State Services, DSS reportedly stormed the two residences in their large number for the operation on Friday afternoon where they towed several vehicles to the police station in Maradun LGA.

Efforts to get the police to confirm the raid were unsuccessful as the State Police Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent Yazid Abubakar did not respond to calls or SMS sent to him.

It could be recalled that Governor Dauda Lawal had in his inauguration speech raised the alarm that his predecessor, Bello Matawalle had carted away several official vehicles and left the state treasury empty.

Meanwhile, the Zamfara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC has condemned in totality what it called Friday’s invasion and vandalization of the Gusau and Maradun private residences of the immediate past Governor of the State, Bello Matawalle by the Police and DSS personnel.

The party in a statement by its State Publicity Secretary, Yusuf Idris described the raid as unlawful and a gross violation of the sacred provisions of sections 34, 35, 37, 41, 42, and 43 of the 1999 Constitution as amended.

It says, what exactly might have warranted the invasion still remains a mystery to the good people of Zamfara state and if the government thinks it has any case against the former Governor, why not file a suit against him in court instead of resorting to such barbaric acts and uncivilized means.

The party called on the Nigerian Police Force and Department of State Services, DSS, as a matter of urgency, to take a decisive stand against the misadventure by the Zamfara State Government, and the perpetrators should be identified and made to face the dire consequences of their action.

The opposition APC claimed that the police and DSS in Zamfara State acted in error and can be accused of being political in their actions. It also called on the Inspector General of Police to direct the immediate arrest of the police officers and verify why they were deployed to the residences of the former Governor.

The statement said, the former Governor had several times said he has nothing to hide anywhere, but legal means must be adopted before carrying out any action against him or his property.

The APC urged the police and all its sister security agencies and their agents to trade political grounds with caution as they cannot condone such action, especially in Zamfara State, which has deteriorating security challenges.
