The Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba has ordered the sealing up of all the 17 Local Government Council Secretariats in Plateau State, North-Central Nigeria.
The order comes after newly inaugurated Plateau State House of Assembly suspended all elected Council Chairmen and Councillors in 17 LGAs to pave way for what they say is an investigation.
The lawmakers say the suspension of the local councils on June 1 was based on their inability to make available the records of their income and expenditure to the Assembly despite repeated requests to do so.
Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang on June 10 sworn-in Interim Transition Committee chairpersons for the 17 councils after his dissolution of elected officials following their suspension by State House of Assembly.

The suspended Council Chairmen and Councillors who are kicking against their removal from office before the expiration of their tenure later this year were all elected in 2021 on platform of then ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang and most members of the State House of Assembly elected this year are members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, including the newly inaugurated LG Interim Transition Committee chairpersons.
