Students of the University of Benin have urged the inspector general of police to ensure that justice prevails in the rape and death of a UNIBEN 100/level student Uwaila Omozuwa by unknown persons last Wednesday.
The students joined by the leadership of the National association of Nigeria students and some concerned citizens in a protest round some parts of Benin city are calling for an end to the increasing rape cases in Nigeria.
They carried placards with various inscriptions from the main gate of the University of Benin through the Benin Lagos express road to the popular five junctions.
They are demanding justice for Uwaila omozuwa who died after she was raped to death at a parish of the redeemed Christian church by unknown persons last Wednesday. They want the police to do a thorough investigation to ensure that perpetrators are brought to book.
The protesters including some concerned citizens of the state while noting the prevalence in rape cases in Nigeria want necessary legislation by the National assembly to ensure that offenders get the maximum punishment.
The rape and death of Uwaila Omozuwa, a hundred level microbiology student of UNIBEN this week triggered outrage in Edo state and Nigeria at large with calls by Nigerians to fish out perpetrators and bring them to book.
