The internal crisis rocking the all progressives congress, APC in Kwara state has taken a new turn as 10,000 members of the ruling party defected to the opposition people’s democratic party, PDP in the state.
The defectors are largely from Kwara north senatorial district believed to be the stronghold of the kwara state governor, Abdulrahman abdulrasaq.
Addressing journalists in Ilorin, the state capital, the coordinator of the aggrieved former APC members, Mazuma kawudogo maintains that they decided to leave the ruling APC because of the crisis allegedly caused by non-adherence to the party’s constitution which he said did not allow both the party and members to grow as expected.
While receiving the defectors, the state PDP chairman, Kola shittu described the development as unprecedented, assuring the new members that they would enjoy same rights and privileges with old members of the party.

Meanwhile, the rulling aAPC in the state through its deputy chairman, Abdulahi sanmori noted that the action of the defectors is too early adding that they only defected for their own selfish reasons and not for selfless reasons.
The current administration in the state recently clocked one year in office amid the crisis facing the party in the state. Observers say time will tell if the action of the defectors will have any effect on the party in future elections
