The Nigeria Labour Congress General Secretary, Emmanuel Ugboaja has led members of the National Union of Civil Engineering, Construction, Furniture and Wood Workers to picket the construction site of China-aid new ECOWAS Secretariat complex in Abuja.
The workers who shut the gates to the complex since 7am on Wednesday, are demanding among other things for the payment of death benefit and other entitlement to a deceased worker.
Both the NLC General Secretary and the Deputy National President of the construction workers union, Yakubu Danbaba Shehu after several unsuccessful visits to the Chinese officials of the company, to allow for peaceful talks, forced their way into the complex, amidst heavy security operatives who surrounded the Chinese officials.
The aggrieved workers gave further explanation on the reason for the picketing
Officials of the Shaabxi company who were visibly angry, refused to react to the accusation of the protesting workers, who vowed to maintain the picketing until the right thing is done.
