The Edo State Government has called on all political parties to obey and follow the regulations in the recently signed Gazette aimed at curtailing the spread of Covid-19 in the State.

This call was made by the Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu when he received his Bayelsa State counterpart Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo who was in Government house, Benin City, to inform him of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, ward congresses to be held in the State.

The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, recently signed a Gazette cited as the Dangerous Infectious Diseases (Emergency Prevention), Supplementary Regulations 2020 as part of measures to curtail the spread of Covid-19 in the State.

Political parties desiring to field candidates in the forthcoming governorship election, may have gatherings more than 20 but not exceeding 5,000 in a single facility that can accommodate 10,000 persons to allow for physical distancing.

The opposition party in the State, the PDP has secured a written permission to use the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium for it governorship primary billed to hold on June 19 and 20, 2020.

Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu commends the PDP for being a law-abiding party and called on other political parties to follow suit. Many say the call by the Deputy Governor shows the State APC faction loyal to the party’s National Chairman and former Governor, Adams Oshiomhole is yet to apply for a permit to conduct its own governorship primaries.

The visiting Bayelsa Deputy Governor, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo and his entourage who are in the state to conduct his PDP ward congresses commended the progress and development achieved by the Godwin Obaseki-led administration.
