The lingering communal crisis rocking two main communities of Gwer East local council of Benue State took a new dimension on Wednesday as women and youth barricaded the Federal highway along Ikpayongu in protest of the incessant killings, rape, abduction and destruction of property.
Speaker of the State Assembly Aondona Dajoh’s appeal to the protesters to reopen the road to allow commuters continue their journey fell on deaf ears.
Enough is Enough was the concerned plea of the frustrated residents of Ikpayongu in Gwer East local council of the State who barricaded the Federal highway following prolonged killings and destruction of property as a result of a persistent communal crisis.
The most recent attack, rape and abduction triggered the protest.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly Aondona Dajoh appealed to the warring communities of Mbasombu and Mbaviur in Gwer East local council to give peace a chance and urged the aggrieved mob to reopen the highway to enable travellers proceed on their journey

But the angry mob will have none of that.
According to the Executives of the State Assembly, efforts are being made to bring an end to the lingering communal crisis that has continued to claim lives. In the interim, appeals have been made for increased security presence in the affected areas so that normalcy can return
