Bayelsa State Governor, Douye Diri, has asked Christian leaders to partner with the government to ensure that all approved guidelines to curtail the spread of coronavirus are strictly adhered to at worship centres in the state.
Governor Diri made this call against the backdrop of the recent upsurge in the number of confirmed cases of Coronavirus within the state.
According to him, directives by the state government are not meant to witchhunt the church but to safeguard members of the body of Christ.
While speaking to some clergymen in Government House, Yenagoa, the Governor also announced that the compulsory use of face mask by worshippers, provision of hand sanitizers, soap, and running water among other guidelines at all worship grounds must be taken seriously.
Bayelsa State has so far recorded a total of 155 confirmed COVID-19 cases despite proactive and preventive steps taken by the government to reduce the spread.

A breakdown of the figure shows 117 active cases, 29 discharged patients, and nine deaths.
