COVID-19: Benue Action Committee insists on strict adherence as cases reach 39

As Benue State’s record of COVID-19 gets close to 40, the state Action Committee has advised its residents to step up adherence to protocols, stressing that anyone still in doubt about its existence is at risk of contracting the disease.

Secretary of the COVID-19 Action Committee and Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Sunday Ongbabo, gave the advice at the weekend in Makurdi, the state capital.

Ongbabo, an expert in emergency health services, further revealed that some workers in the state have contracted the virus, and equally urged workers to strictly observe COVID-19 protocols at work and in their homes.

The Action Committee Secretary was worried that many citizens are reluctant to comply with safety precautions, pointing out that it would be impossible for the state government to appoint persons that would put face masks on the people at their homes and places of work.

In this regard, the Health Commissioner said that the Action Committee would soon recommend the enforcement of the use of face masks.

Those who are insisting on gathering in large numbers should choose between their lives and such congestion, he said.

He particularly noted that many have refused to observe social distancing in mosques, churches, and markets.

The Secretary noted that 11 fully recovered COVID-19 patients have so far been discharged in the state while the remaining patients were responding well to treatment.

He, however, observed that the state hadn’t recorded any COVID-19 death but called on the people to continue to cooperate with members of the committees set up at different levels.
