Sit-Home-Enforcers

The Ebonyi State Police Command says its operatives have again swooped on gunmen trying to enforce the illegal sit-at-home order in the State, this time killing two.

The Command Public Relations Officer, SP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, disclosed this in a statement, noting that the latest incident happened at Okposi in Ohaozara Local Government Area.

SP Onovwakpoyeya explained that on Monday afternoon, some armed men suspected to be members of the militia wing of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, went into the area, shooting sporadically into the air, apparently to intimidate and scare residents from going about their normal duties.

According to the statement, on receipt of the information, operatives of the Command immediately swung into action and engaged the suspects in a gun duel, which resulted in one of them being killed while the others escaped with varying degrees of bullet wounds.

The Command’s spokesperson further explained that at about 6am Tuesday, during the continuous combing of the bushes, three of the fleeing suspects were arrested with bullet wounds, but one of them later died.

She lists some of the items recovered to include, One blue Highlander jeep riddled with bullets, One pump action gun, and Five (5) live cartridges, among others.
